not really. Division 1 in Region A is much different than D-1 in Region D when it comes to enrollment

Numbers are numbers. The Division 1 schools in Region A have to meet the same criteria as Region D. The Division 1 schools in Region D might be smaller, by enrollment, but that's nobody's fault. William Campbell went from Division 3 straight to Division 1. They had chosen to play up, for whatever reason, and when they came down, their enrollment met the Division 1 criteria. I believe they have around 250 students. Some of the really small schools in Region A (Chincoteague, Atlantic Shores) aren't eligible for VHSL playoff consideration. I'm pretty sure it's because they play too many private schools that have as little enrollment and talent as they do.
Huge difference. Haysi and Clintwood probably have the biggest gripe. There are 10 or 12 schools in the state that compete in division 1 in football that are larger than Haysi and Clintwood who are forced to compete in division 2. If that had been straightened out years ago Appy's state championship rings would've no doubt been less in the 90's and Burton would've had to do more than show up to make it to the state semifinals in this first decade of the new millenium.
I take that back there are 24 division 1 schools in the state larger than Haysi and Clintwood(who both have to play in D-2) with William Campbell being one of them at 353 enrollment.
That is a laugher, what is wrong with them playing a bigger school? If it wouyld be good for Appy then get happy. But it doesn't look like I'll be watching anyone but the Raiders soon.
In Burton and Appy's defense there are 13 schools in Division 1 that have more than twice the enrollment of those two schools. One school in region b has only a few students less than Gate City.
The enrollment figures are here 07 ,08 Final alignment plan

Nothing is wrong with playing a bigger school as long as that school is in your division or higher. Its a laugher when you have schools in lower divisions that have a bigger enrollment than your school.

see, that is my whole point. I think till the VHSL goes to a 4-A class the small schools in Region D will have the deck stacked against them. by your theory is was ok for the VHSL to force Pound or Rye Cove into the Divison-2 bracked against the likes of PV and Gate City.
I think the enrollment of the school you are playing in the playoffs should be somewhat close to each other and forget about this equal 1/3 they have set up now.
maybe I'm totaly wrong in my thinking and If I am someone please tell me where my thinking is flawed so I don't go around thinking we are getting the short end of the stick, because I wan't to understand
Why do they have to play Division 2?
